It is the month of light!
There is Christma and Channuka. On our homepage you can find the story about Hannuka and also a photo impression of the Arab villages around us where the Christmas mood has already started. ........
All these beautiful decorations! During the coming weeks I will go there again, when the villages are fully decorated, and will take some more pictures to show you.
I come from Holland and for me Christmas is winter, snow, cold.. decoration lights in the shopping area's. It is hot chocolate milk.... Christmas trees everywhere. I still cannot get used to the idea of seeing all these Christmas decorations, while it is beautiful weather and I am picking lemons from my trees and am still able to sit in the sun.
At home we celebrated Hannuka; we lit the Hannukia for eight days, said the prayers and sang the Maot Zur. I found a beautiful version on You Tube.
A dear memory.....
We did not celebrate Christmas at home, for us it was about Hannuka. But when we were still very young my sisters and I had our own X-mas branch which we decorated with beautiful things... and which we hung at the house of our neighbours at that time, Aunt Mien and Uncle Toon, may they rest in peace. I was always so proud of my branch!
Sharing together, like we did with our neighbours so many years ago, that is what all these traditions are about.
May the light of this month bring the light of peace into all our lives!
