Menorah

The menorah is one of the oldest symbols of the Jewish faith.
The seven branched candelabra probably originated as a version ofthe Babylonian world tree- the seven arms likely represent the sevendays of creation and the seven visible planets.

Menorah has been used as one of the oldest Jewish symbols thatappeared on coins, and on the walls and floors of synagogues. After thedestruction of the Temple by the Romans, the Menorah was transported toRome. A stone relief in the Triumphal Arch of Titus in Rome depicts theparade that carried the Menorah in the streets of Rome.


There is a controversy whether the Menorah pictured in thisrelief reflects accurately the shape of the Menorah that was in theTemple.
The national emblem of the State of Israel includes a seven branched-candelabrum, called Menorah, flanked by two olive branches.
